Designing for Mental Wellness
Singapore
The Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) was established in 1968 as the first community mental health agency in Singapore. SAMH Space2Connect is their newest integrated centre which provides diverse programmes and services, all with the goal of promoting mental wellness through lifestyle changes that lead to well-being, recovery, and empowerment. It also serves as a collaborative space for like-minded partners to deliver meaningful engagements that strengthen community mental health and resilience.
The Gensler Singapore Community Impact Team partnered closely with SAMH key stakeholders in this pro bono interior design project. Together, we translated SAMH’s vision into a spatial design which embodies the message of cultivating healthy connections to achieve holistic well-being and ties the variety of programs together effectively. Our design approach prioritised users’ sense of familiarity and safety in the space, while incorporating elements of “Community” nuanced to local culture.
