UT Tyler School of Medicine

Tyler, Texas

The UT Tyler School of Medicine is spearheading a transformative approach to rural healthcare in East Texas with the design of a cutting-edge medical educational building. This 250,000-square-foot Health Science Center, strategically located in Tyler’s Midtown District near the UT Health East Texas Hospital, serves as a hub for medical education, clinics, and surgery. The School of Medicine’s proximity to hospitals fosters a collaborative environment for hands-on learning.

UT Tyler’s Health Science Center features multifunctional spaces for medical education, including advanced learning studios, study areas, meeting rooms, and offices for faculty and residents. Specialized laboratories support anatomy, flexible skills training, and a high-tech simulation center that not only enhances training, but also offers revenue-generating opportunities.

In addition to its educational functions, the project includes specialty teaching clinics, imaging facilities, physical therapy services, and an ambulatory surgery center. A skybridge connects the academic building to the hospital, supporting the growth of both undergraduate and graduate medical education programs. This initiative offers first-generation students a chance to make a significant impact in delivering rural healthcare services in the region, emphasizing wellness and the patient experience, while driving long-term economic benefits for the Tyler community. Gensler is partnering on the project with Fitzpatrick Architects, based locally in Tyler, Texas.
