Rory Carder Is Appointed as Co-Managing Director as Firm Continues Its Commitment to Phoenix
PHOENIX – Gensler, the leading architecture, design, and planning firm, announces the appointment of Rory Carder to Co-Managing Director of Gensler Phoenix. In her new role, she will lead collaboratively with Martha dePlazaola Abbott in what is a benchmark of the firm’s co-leadership model. Martha and Rory make a dynamic team by delivering client value, empowering Gensler’s team of designers, and providing open and transparent leadership styles.
Rory is a recognized market leader with 25 years of experience, with a focus on designing high impact workplace experiences. As a Principal, Studio Director, and Operations Director, Rory has played an integral role in the strategic growth and positioning of Gensler’s Phoenix office. Her appointment to the leadership team represents Gensler’s commitment to design excellence as a leader in delivering transformational workplaces for clients while continuing its growth in residential, hospitality, technology, and public sectors.

In 2022, Gensler celebrated 20 years in the market with the move to a new office at 2575 E Camelback Road. The “Living Lab” office is a celebration of the collaborative and innovative approach for the firm, representing the future of work. Since debuting, the office has opened its doors to the community and industry partners furthering its commitment to the City of Phoenix. As a thought leader in issues of climate impact and urban renewal, Gensler Phoenix hosted the inaugural, “The Future of Sustainability in Arizona,” bringing together civic and industry leaders to discuss critical issues impacting businesses and the environment. Earlier this year, the office hosted “The Hip Hop Architecture Camp,” creating hands-on experience for underrepresented youth to careers in STEAM.
Rory is a graduate of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design from Arizona State University, where she holds a Bachelor of Science in Design. She has honed her expertise in workplace design experience spanning technology, financial services, professional services, office development, and government sectors, and currently serves as the Regional Financial Services Leader. She is a leader in the community and has received recognition from Arizona Commercial Real Estate Magazine (AZ|RE) as one of the “Most Influential Women in Commercial Real Estate” and is a current member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) – Arizona Chapter.
