Tallinn Tower
Tallinn, Estonia
Earning second place in an international architecture competition, Gensler’s design proposal for Tallinn Tower showcases an innovative vision for urban living, working, and gathering in the heart of Estonia’s capital. Inspired by Tallinn’s iconic Old Town skyline, the concept features a cluster of three interconnected towers, seamlessly integrating residential, commercial, and public spaces while fostering a strong connection with its surroundings.
The design celebrates sustainability and community-driven urban transformation. Advanced solutions, such as smart building technologies, water efficiency systems, and integrated photovoltaics, aim to achieve low-carbon operations. Meanwhile, the reuse of materials from the original structure reinforces a connection to Tallinn’s architectural heritage.
Aligned with Tallinn’s status as a “European Green Capital,” the proposal envisions publicly accessible outdoor spaces, including landscaped terraces and amphitheatre steps, transforming the area into a vibrant, year-round destination for markets, holiday events, and outdoor dining. A permeable ground-floor design encourages activity throughout the day, offering high-quality dining, shopping, and cultural experiences, transitioning to a speakeasy lounge by night.
Within the towers, the user-focused design emphasises natural light, dual-aspect apartments with balconies, and coworking spaces featuring private terraces and premium amenities. The mid-tower 680m² wellness centre concept would deliver holistic health experiences exclusively to tenants, including a spa and panoramic views of Tallinn's Old Town and the Baltic Sea.
Beyond the site, the proposal envisions revitalising adjacent streets with pedestrian-friendly zones, bike paths, and lush landscaping to create a strong connection between historic landmarks and new green plazas. Gensler’s Tallinn Tower proposal has been recognised as a bold, forward-thinking concept that reimagines sustainability, modern functionality, and human-centred design in Estonia’s capital.
