Smithsonian Institution Collections & Support Center
Landover, Maryland
In transforming an eight-acre warehouse space into a comprehensive support center for the Smithsonian museums, this project consolidated departments from five separate locations. Incorporating new exhibit fabrication workshops, graphics studios, collections storage, a rare-book conservation lab and a security training center, the facility also adopts needed technical and security requirements. Organized around a community plaza, the design is enhanced by a new wayfinding system that helps create a sense of community.
