Satcon Technology Corporation

Inspired by Satcon’s business of harnessing the power of the sun, Gensler’s design for the company's new and expanded headquarters revolves around the summer solstice. A continuous LED light fixture in the reception/gallery area acted as an orienting element and represents the position of the sun in Boston at 12:00 p.m. on June 21st. Interior renovations over two floors create alignment with the company’s testing, assembly and electronics labs on the first floor. The design balanced existing industrial qualities of the building with a modern design aesthetic based on openness and transparency, taking advantage of co-location synergy in one of Boston’s emerging innovation districts.
