Pennsylvania Horticultural Society
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Catering to an array of different needs from its stakeholders, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s new home provides clear separation of its programmatic elements and an engaging work environment. Upstairs, for staffers, open plan workspaces flank a communal kitchen, lounge and group seating. The street level houses the public spaces for volunteers and donors, including the McLean Library, home to the largest collection of horticulture books in the area. A town hall and galley accommodate the many demonstrations hosted by the organization. Locally harvested woods, including walnut and elm, are incorporated into the design to highlight the inherent beauty of Pennsylvania’s arboreal species.
