L’Oréal Gateway London HQ
London, United Kingdom
L’Oréal’s new London HQ at Gateway Central stands as an industry-leading workplace ecosystem that brings all the cosmetics company’s 36 international brands and 1000+ employees together under one roof. Situated in West London’s White City Innovation District, the space will pioneer a new future for the hair and beauty industry, cultivating L’Oréal’s entrepreneurial culture and providing more space for workers to continue to innovate and disrupt the market. Anchored by a ‘raw beauty’ concept, the design reflects London’s cultural diversity with nods to Paris’ chic fashion and beauty heritage, which is expressed through rich materiality, featuring high-end elements and industrial touches.
Located on the ground floor, the L’Oréal Academy is a flagship educational centre that provides training for over 10,000 professionals each year. The Academy is designed as a welcoming store-front style space with four hair studios, a colour test lab, an immersive retail experience, and a treatment room for professional training. Users engage in content creation and photography, while the triple-height space doubles as an event venue for town halls, performances, and runway shows.
A barista bar, community café, boardroom, and library space are dispersed across other floors at the new HQ. With 35% of the space dedicated to purpose-built collaboration zones, such as coworking hubs, meeting rooms, and enclosed pods, L’Oréal’s employees have autonomy over where they work in the office. Facilities, such as a wellness room for relaxation and meditation, a multi-faith room, and a parents’ and caregivers’ room, further support an inclusive workforce.
The new HQ is located within the Gateway Central building, which has an ‘Outstanding’ BREEAM Design Stage certification, and is positioned within the White City Place campus, which is 100% powered by renewable energy, including 8% from rooftop PV panels. Solar-controlled glass reduces AC energy use by half, making it one of the most sustainable buildings in London. As the L’Oréal Groupe celebrates 90 years in the UK, the Gateway workplace reflects L’Oréal’s commitment to continuing to prioritise its innovative culture and fostering inclusivity and connection among its people.
