KCET Studios
Burbank, California
After breaking off from PBS to address more independent broadcasting topics, KCET—Southern and Central California’s community television station—moved from its Hollywood campus to a multi-tenant 14-story office building in Burbank, and hired Gensler for the new site's renovation. To accommodate the recording studio, an “acoustical box within a box” had to be allowed to penetrate from the 5th-floor plate to the bottom of the 7th-floor slab by cutting through the 6th-floor. A “ribbon liner,” akin to a Mobius band, connects production studios with public areas, which include the visitor reception area, a donor gallery and a community/screening room.
