Kaz Sushi Bistro
Washington, D.C.
This popular Japanese restaurant sought to better utilize its space, accommodate its steady base of customers and enhance the dining experience. Much like Kaz’s Bistro, the resulting space infuses a traditional Japanese tone with a modern edge. Despite its small footprint, the restaurant is more open and spacious, a shift realized by relocating the host podium and eliminating unnecessary partitions to improve flow and sightlines. The palette of high-contrast neutrals with a hint of warmth adds depth, and it contrasts nicely with the space’s dark red accents. Wood slats, bare concrete and cold-rolled steel finishes provide a modern flourish for this urban retreat.
