Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport

Gunnison, Colorado

Located in central Colorado, the Town of Gunnison is often referred to as “one of the coldest places in the United States.” This moniker helped establish early priorities for Gunnison’s regional airport terminal renovation and expansion project, which features a design solution rooted in efficiency and re-use. Gensler’s design approach allowed for the programmatic needs to be met while also addressing substantial improvements to the building envelope. The result is a modernized and slightly expanded 40,000-square-foot, four-gate terminal with a drastically improved passenger experience and enhanced operational efficiency. The airport is an all-electric net zero energy facility, served by a highly-efficient geothermal well field, solar-covered parking, and energy recovery ventilation (ERV) mechanical systems.
