Challenge

While elite European soccer clubs and professional teams have long operated purpose-built complexes, U.S. soccer facilities have lagged behind. To close that gap, the United States Soccer Federation sought to create a unified national training center supporting all 27 teams while honoring the sport’s legacy. The challenge: design a high-performance campus that balanced elite athletic demands with long-term resilience, while establishing a cohesive identity rooted in tradition and excellence.

Solution

Gensler’s design establishes a purpose-built campus grounded in human-centered planning. With 17 grass and indoor pitches and over 200,000 square feet of performance facilities, the 200-acre site brings together training, recovery, analytics, and research spaces that traditionally existed in isolation. An on-site sport research lab developed in partnership with Nike brings biomechanics analysis, footwear testing, and injury prevention research directly to the training environment.

Impact

The National Training Center sets a new benchmark for soccer environments in the United States, supporting performance, inclusivity, and long-term growth. By bringing all national teams together in one campus, it strengthens culture, collaboration, and shared identity across the organization. The facility elevates the daily experience for athletes and staff while reinforcing the federation’s mission through community engagement and hospitality. The NTC positions the entire U.S. Soccer pipeline, from youth academies to World Cup squads, for sustained success on the global stage.
