Philip Twiss, ARB RIBA

As Design Director, Phil is responsible for overseeing and leading the design culture within Gensler’s Birmingham office, ensuring design excellence in every project.

His approach to design achieves high-quality architectural solutions that embody simplicity, attention to detail, and intelligent and responsible use of materials. From connecting with the client and design team to develop a project brief, to coordinating the design response and successful management of delivery on-site, Phil manages the delivery of each project with enthusiasm and passion.

Phil has extensive experience in critical facilities projects and has overseen the delivery of several hyperscale data centres in Europe for leading global cloud service providers. Working on projects across a varying range of scale, from the smaller-scale repositioning of commercial offices at Brindley Place in Birmingham, to a large-scale urban masterplan for Blackpool’s new Leisure Quarter, Phil is able to draw on his broad experience to create better, sustainable design solutions for his clients.

Phil has a seat on the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Council, and serves as Regional Chair of RIBA West Midlands, RIBA External Examiner for Coventry School of Architecture, and a committee member of the Birmingham Architectural Association.
