John Thomann, AIA, CID

John is a Technical Director and Principal based in Gensler’s Chicago office. As an authority on codes, permitting, and on-site coordination, John has spent more than 20 years in technical leadership roles at the firm. He offers specialized experience in top-tier law firm interiors and workplace design, bolstered by support from his core and shell architecture background. John is a trusted client advisor with a broad spectrum of project experience, which includes Marriott International’s Global Headquarters.

Always eager to share his knowledge through teaching and mentorship, John has been a visiting professor at Virginia Tech University and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He has been a Regional Community Impact Leader at Gensler and has participated in the firm’s Sustainable Task Force, The University of Florida’s Architecture Advisory Council, and the Circle of Life Society at the Smithsonian National Zoo.
