Elaine Asal
Strategy Director, Principal
Based in Baltimore, Elaine is a Strategy practice area leader for Gensler’s Southeast region. A connector, catalyst, instigator, and communicator, she believes solutions to the most pressing challenges can be found in many forms, and often, from unexpected places. As a trained architect, Elaine’s approach to problem-solving balances visionary ideals with realistic measures. She excels at organizational development and innovation processes. With nearly 20 years of experience at Gensler, she consults and partners with clients across the private, public, and non-profit sectors with a current focus on equitable development and community engagement.
Beyond the extensive professional experience in her eighteen years at Gensler working across a wide-ranging portfolio of projects, Elaine has participated in and led a number of initiatives focused on social innovation and community development both within and outside of the firm. She has designed, hosted, and participated in multiple events and workshops geared toward catalyzing community members around issues and projects in their own neighborhoods. Elaine serves as the task force chair for the Station North Arts District program at Central Baltimore Partnership and always seeks to use design as a platform to create dialogue around civic issues and social change.
