Campbell Hall
North Hollywood, California
After acquiring land and buildings, this independent K-12 day school turned to Gensler for both strategic and phased plans for a new $60 million community arts center and gymnasium. Reflecting Campbell Hall’s premise as a “community of inquiry,” the plan uses interstitial spaces to create an integrated, holistic learning experience encouraging multidisciplinary collaboration. Similarly, new design elements were deliberately developed in conversation with older features. Upper-level gardens alternate with classrooms to create a range of common areas for interaction while visually relating to the housing across the street. Rooftop terraces, landings and bridges bring vibrancy to the school’s diverse and talented arts community.
